Topeka Police dispatchers say motorists traveling near Gage Park may have to find an alternative route this morning. A storm sewer collapse has caused damage the 4100 block of West 6th Street, which is currently blocked off to through traffic.
A 49 News photojournalist at the scene says the damage is about the size of a manhole.
Traffic going westbound should take Gage to 10th, 10th to Fairlawn and Fairlawn to 6th Street. Eastbound traffic should take Fairlawn to 10th, 10th to Gage and Gage to 6th.
The damage will likely cause some headaches for residents of the Chalet Apartments and those visiting the apartments. Access to those apartments will be from the east.
The storm sewer's collapse was caused by age and deterioration of the line, which will be replaced. Those permanent repairs will be complete August 22, Topeka Spokesman David Bevens said.
