Comedian Bernie Mac succumbs to pneumonia
Why his death came as a surprise to family members and what Mac is best known for.
The world of comedy and Hollywood suffered a great loss this weekend. Actor and comedian Bernie Mac died Saturday morning.
Bernie Mac, whose real name was Bernard McCullough, died in a Chicago-area hospital from complications due to pneumonia. His daughter, Je'niece Childress, says the family expected him to fully recover, but realized as time passed they should brace for the worse. He had been suffering from pneumonia for at least three weeks.
The comedian is best known for his starring role in the popular Fox television series "The Bernie Mac Show."
He was 50 years old.
