Ichabods tabbed fourth in MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll

The Washburn Ichabods were picked to finish in fourth place in the MIAA by league's coaches during the 2008 MIAA Preseason Media Day Poll at the Kansas City Chiefs' Arrowhead Stadium. The Ichabods, who will open the season on Aug. 28 at home against Colorado Mines, were placed behind 2007 champ Northwest Missouri followed by MIAA newcomer Nebraska-Omaha and then Pittsburg State.

The Ichabods reached the NCAA Playoffs for the second time in the last three seasons in 2007 falling at West Texas A&M. This season the Ichabods are slated to return 43 lettermen in fall camp along with 17 starters. Add to the mix of back-to-back top-flight recruiting classes the competition for playing time is as strong as it has been at Washburn. “We are going to have a great fall camp,” Schurig said. “We have a good core group of returners, but they are going to be pushed by some of the new players for playing time this season.”
