She didn't have a prime time audience, but tonight, Governor Sebelius told Democrats that Barack Obama's Kansas roots make him the right man for the White House.

"Barack Obama's grandfather, Stanley Dunham, told him there's nothing you can't do if he or she is willing to work hard enough... It's the same idea that's written in the Seal of Kansas, to the stars through difficulty...For too many families, reaching the stars is more difficult than ever before," Sebelius said.

Democrats were criticized for not taking aim at Republicans during the first night of the convention.

Watch Governor Sebelius' entire speech here.

Tonight, Sebelius used a Kansas connection to poke fun at Republican John McCain.

Last week, McCain didn't have an answer when asked how many homes he owns.

"I'm sure you all remember that girl from Kansas who said there's no place like home. Well, in John McCain's case, there's no place like home, or a home, or a home, or a home," Sebelius said.

The speech lasted about six minutes.

From Scott Rothschild

Kansas Democrats at the party's national convention were all ears as Governor Sebelius spoke tonight. 49 News' Scott Rothschild is in Denver, and spoke with us a few minutes ago about how Sebelius' speech was received. "You know, it's kind of a typical speech for that time of the evening, there's a lot of milling about. A lot of people are listening, a lot of people are just walking around. I think, all in all, it was certainly well received by the delegates in the Kansas delegation. They thought she did a good job." We'll be touching base with Scott throughout the week, as the Democrats move toward officially nominating Barack Obama as their candidate.
