Happy retailers at 21st and Urish
Nearby business owners are glad the intersection is open, but aren't happy with the road the city took to get here.
"It's about time, going on eight months, and it's taken a whole year from us," Ian Robbins, Wine Cellar and Sunsations owner, said.
Robbins is glad the intersection is open, but isn't happy with the road the city took to get here.
"If I ran my business like the city engineers ran this project, I'd have been out of business a long time ago," said Robbins
He says too many delays, and too little information from the city have frustrated him. His sales have dropped 50% since the road first closed. But today, he's ready to move on.
"At least the project is done and we can get to some normality in our business lives," said Robbins.
Laura Scott, owner of the Create Hair Studio, knew the construction was planned before she opened her shop. Now she's ready for more clients to walk through her door.
"Hopefully, people will start using the intersection again and more people will start noticing we're here," Scott said.
Scott says the drop off in walk-in traffic because of construction had her closing the store early and closing altogether on Mondays.
"You just kind of roll with the punches," said Scott.
She does think the project will help the area in the long run.
"Hopefully it will benefit the businesses here and the businesses for the future."
North of the roundabout, just one lane of traffic in each direction is getting by. It'll stay that way until workers have had time to finish off some of the details
