The roundabout at SW 21st Street and SW Urish Road is open to traffic in all directions.
Work began on the intersection during the first week of May and the roadwork portion of the project was completed just five days beyond the original completion date despite weather and utility company delays. All lanes are completed but only one lane in both directions on the north leg will be open while contractors complete driveway entrance and sidewalk construction.
Funding for the project was approved by Shawnee County voters in 2005 when citizens passed a ½ cent sales tax to pay for several road projects, including the new Topeka Boulevard Bridge and the reconstruction of portions of Croco and Wanamaker roads. Land acquisitions at 21st and Urish took place in 2007 and surveying began in the area over the winter months.
