The Locker Room Show: High school tournament action
10:38 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008
An old English tradition stated that February 29th was the only day a woman could propose marriage to a man. The only thing we're proposing today is that we get straight to the Sub-State hoops action.
Tonight marked the third time Highland Park and Shawnee Heights met on the hardwood, with the Scots winning both contests but only by a combined 11 points. But this is the playoffs and you can throw that all out of the proverbial window. To KC Turner we go, where Heights took on Highland Park. And Highland Park rolled in this one and is heading to the state tournament to try to repeat as state champs, 65-32 the final.
But who will join the Scots at the Expocentre? Seaman took on Lansing and pulled off the upset, 58-42, and they punch their ticket to state.
A playoff ticket is waiting for the winner of the track meet that was Arkansas City versus Emporia. The Spartans rolled, 70-39 the final.
As we continue along on our road to states, Hayden, looking to go all the way, faced Atchison. It was all Hayden in this one as they keep their season alive with a 75-34 victory.
The game following that one, Holton vs. Perry-Lecompton...The Kaws and Cats would duke it out until the end, but Holton were the victors in this one, 58-52.
Washburn Rural was the victor over Junction City, 62-42.
Next up, 2A action as St. Marys took on Peabody Burns and rolled 71-55 to make it to the sub-state championship.
