Flash flood warning for Wabaunsee County
3:46 p.m. Tuesday, July 8, 2008
The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a flash flood warning for northern Wabaunsee County until 6:30 p.m.
At 3:24 p.m., Doppler radar indicated very heavy rain from a thunderstorm over the warned area. Radar estimated between 2 and 3 inches of rain has fallen over the warned area. Thunderstorms are expected to continue to move across the warned area and another 1 to 2 inches of rainfall is possible.
Locations impacted include Alma, Maple Hill, McFarland and Paxico. This includes interstate 70 between mile markers 323 and 346.
Flood waters have already caused the closure of portion of K-99 in the county. Find out how long the closure is expected to last.
Runoff from this storm will cause flash flooding of creeks and streams, highways and underpasses. Additionally roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks and streams and low lying areas are subject to flash flooding.
