Search for three children turns out a false alarm

A frightening search in the Kansas River tonight turned out to be a false alarm.
Just before 6:00 tonight, several area rescue crews were called to the Kansas River.
They searched the Kansas River east of Wamego, near Maple Hill, after getting a call about three children, possibly missing in the water.
As it turns out, the boys had been swimming in the river, then went home.
But someone who saw them thought they were in trouble and when rescue crews went searching, they didn't find anyone.
After 90 minutes of searching with boats in the water and a Kansas Highway Patrol helicopter, police discovered the boys had finished swimming and just gone home.
Police say swimming in the Kansas River can be deadly.
"We stressed to them that swimming in the river is a very dangerous situation, especially since the water is so high, and we recommended that they don't swim in the river anymore," Wamego Police Chief Michael Baker said.
A boy who went underwater near that same spot in the Kansas River was never found.
9-year-old Michael Zapletal disappeared nearly one year ago.
Michael was playing with his siblings and his father on August 15 when the Kansas River pulled him under.
Despite the hard work of search teams, Michael's body was never found.
