Delivering a baby earns police officer a special honor

A Geary County police officer found an unexpected bundle of joy on the side of the road.
Geary County Sheriff's corporal Mark Maschmeir delivered a baby on I-70 Thursday.
He found a woman pulled over to the side of the road in labor.
He and another patrolman delivered the baby within minutes, a first for him.
Maschmeir visited the new mom and baby boy Friday morning, and was surprised a second time.
He found out the mom named the baby after him.
"Gave her a few gifts and that's when I found out what she had named the baby," Cpl. Maschmeir said. "I was speechless. I felt, like a heavy weight. It was something else...almost kind of teary in the eye or whatever."
Maschmeir has four children of his own.
He witnessed their natural births and says that helped him deliver the baby.
