Parvo outbreak forces Fort Riley's dog park to close

Fort Riley A recent outbreak of the contagious Parvovirus has prompted the closing of the Community Dog Park on post indefinitely. Dog owners are encouraged to have their pets vaccinated to protect them from the virus.

This is not the first time the post has experienced a Parvo outbreak. In July 2007, the dog park was closed to deal with the same issue.
Symptoms
Parvo is a highly contagious, often fatal viral disease of dogs, characterized by vomiting, severe diarrhea, and depression and accompanied by high fever and loss of appetite. Dogs that have parvovirus will also experience lethargy and could experience severe gastrointestinal distress or even death.
