Higher gas prices taking the bloom off the rose for florists

Painted daisies, a bow or maybe a rose...Still, sometimes the best part of the flowers is the surprise.
Patti Kadlicek owns The English Garden,
"It's about delivery. People love getting flowers at work and they like to show them off," she said.
But that delivery service is getting pretty pricey as gas tops $4 a gallon, so Patti says she's adjusted how she delivers.
"I've just been making sure I only deliver at one part of the day and I do courtesy calls," she said.
She says the surcharge for gas has gone up for when flowers are delivered here at The English Garden. So far, her new system is working, but if gas goes up too much...
"I'll get a smaller car if I have to. I know before when people brought me flowers, I loved having them delivered," Patti said.
That florist is determined to keep up delivery service.
But we've noticed other florists around town offering deals on flowers if you pick them up.
