Dillons breaks ground on new building in Greensburg
Residents say the business' decision to stay was the "right thing" to do

Greensburg's Kwik Shop has served the community's basic grocery needs over the past year, but its small cramped aisles will soon be a thing of the past thanks to Dillon Stores' decision to re-build.
Residents say its exciting and something many thought they may never see come to pass. In fact, it would have been easy for Dillons to not re-build.
"But Dillons didn't do that. They did what I call the Kansas thing to do, the right thing to do," said Dillons and Kwik Shop employee Mary Racette.
At Dillons' groundbreaking ceremony recently, Kansas Lt. Gov. Mark Parkinson, praised Dillons for making a decision that may not have been best for their business, but one that was best for the people they serve.
"It's the right thing for us to do for the community, and we're just excited to be here," Dillons Public Relations Coordinator Sheila Lowie said.
The new store will be an expansion of the current Kwik Shop, almost tripling the current location's size to 8,000 square feet. It will, of course, feature green initiatives, additional frozen and fresh produce sections and offer customers new and exciting departments including a deli.
Residents say the grocery store is a basic service they're thankful to have returning.
"We've had to drive 30 miles to get groceries, so this is wonderful," Greensburg resident Marilyn Goodheart said.
