Golf tournament to fund scholarships for working adults
10:07 a.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2008
Several teams have registered, but there's room for more at the Friends University PACE Scholarship Golf Tournament.
If you're one that procrastinates until the last minute, don't worry; you can still register the day of the event, said Gregg Shaffer, with Friends University's Alumni Association.
The forecasted 90-degree weather for this weekend is not expected to effect turnout, he said.
PACE Scholarship Golf Tournament
- When: Saturday, July 26, 2008, 10:30 a.m.
- Where: Western Hills Golf Course, Topeka
- Cost: $50 - $200
- Age limit: Not available
The purpose of the golf tournament is to raise money for the PACE program in Topeka. The program awards scholarships to working adults who are working towards an associate's degree at Friends University.
"It allows students to go back and get their associate's degree and be able to do that while working and maintaining a home life and all that," Shaffer said.
Friends University hopes to expand the number of scholarships they give out, he said, and possibly help fund some other scholarship programs the university has available.
