49 Storm Team Forecast: Swamp-thing!
6:51 p.m. Friday, July 25, 2008
Step outside. Need we say more? It feels and looks like a swamp outside. A stalled out front across Kansas is responsible for the stagnant, swampy airmass. This front will waver north and south throughout the next few days. So, expect more the same: light winds, soupy air, sizzling heat, and scattered late-day and evening storms.
Tonight: Swamp-like with swamp-like showers, mainly south early. Lows around 71 F. Light winds.
Saturday: Sizzling with tropical-like humidity. Scattered thunderstorms developing later in the afternoon and evening. Highs around 93 F. Heat index near 100 F during the afternoon. Light winds.
Saturday night: More of the same: swampy, showery weather. Lows around 72 F.
More sunshine on Sunday will mean even hotter temperatures. Combine the heat with the swamp-like humidity, and you have the perfect recipe for high heat index values. It could feel like 105+ degrees Sunday afternoon.
Unfortunately, swamp-thing has booked several rooms across Northeast Kansas. He shows no signs of leaving, and taking his airmass, back south anytime soon.
