DA files charges against Topeka Police officer

The Topeka Police Department has learned that the District Attorney has filed charges today on one off-duty officer who was involved in an off-duty shooting on March 18. That officer will remain on paid administrative leave pending the criminal process. This officer is entitled to due process of the law, the same due process that all citizens are afforded.

An internal investigation into the incident is now beginning. The three other off-duty officers who were involved will remain on paid administrative leave at this time pending the completion of the District Attorney’s review and an internal investigation. Because this is a personnel matter, we are unable to go into further details regarding this issue.
