Gov. Kathleen Sebelius has appointed a local prosecutor as a district judge in Shawnee County.
The new judge is David Debenham. He is the deputy district attorney who oversees the prosecution of major felony cases.
He will replace District Judge Thomas Conklin, who retired July 4.
The 53-year-old Debenham has been practicing law for nearly three decades. He's also a former deputy attorney general, having overseen work on criminal cases under Attorney General Carla Stovall, who left office in 2003.
Sebelius cited Debenham's experience as a lawyer in announcing his appointment.
