Applause filled the air at the Topeka Performing Arts Center as a record-setting number of emigrants took their oath of citizenship today.
It was the largest class ever in Kansas to be naturalized.
From Indians to Iraqis, 1,271 people became American citizens today in two different ceremonies.
Gov. Kathleen Sebelius made an appearance during the morning ceremony and offered her congratulations, as did hundreds of family members and friends who came out to support those taking their oath.
