Kansas drivers speak up about speed limits on highways

You could be required to drive slower on the highway. State officials are considering lowering the speed limit on Kansas highways from 70 to 65 mph.
It would be part of an effort to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. The Kansas Energy Council will consider the Greenhouse Gas Policy Committee's work next month.
"That would be fine with me, it wouldn't hurt nothing," said Butch Johnson.
Johnson doesn't mind the possibility of having to drive slower.
John Watkins feels differently.
"I would most definitely, that would be problem. I commute 60 miles a day for work, so that would be an added drive time for me," he said.
Kevin King said he believed slower speed limits may help people slow down and enjoy life more.
"I am all for it. I think that everybody needs to get to a point in their life where they need to slow down a little bit, and I think that would be a good purpose for that," King said.
Drivers of semi trailer trucks say slower speed limits would cost them big money.
"I wouldn't like it," truck driver Chad Berry said. "Because I get paid by how much I do during the day."
"The less miles an hour I can run, the less I can get paid," Berry added.
So drivers won't just be watching the road. They'll watch to see what happens with this idea.
