Father and son set out on the Summer for Cure
6:26 p.m. Wednesday, June 4, 2008
It's nearly midnight and Eric Nordgren is all set to begin his journey of 335 miles.
"So by the time we're done, about $30,000 calories so it's gonna be a challenge to stay hydrated and keep enough calories in," Eric said.
He's got a stash of supplements to help with nutrition and says the endurance biking helps him relate to the folks he's raising money for. Last year he raised $15,000 and rode 228 miles.

"Sometimes I' ll get up and I'll think, oh well, you know, that's exactly the same way they feel. They just don't want to get up," he said.
Also up for part of the journey is Eric's son, Hans, who'll ride in front, breaking the wind resistance. He'll ride 200 plus miles to help out dear old dad and the cause.
"If it weren't for my dad, I don't think I'd be biking right now because we grew up in a biking family," Hans said.
And of course it's fun...
"Fun?!-- Uh, yeah, I guess. It's a lot of work, but in this case, yes it's fun," Hans said.
So with an eye on the sky and ambition, not only to ride more but raise more money than last year, he's off.
This is just the first of three to four rides Eric and his sons will do this summer.
They're calling it the Summer for Cure and are raising the money throughout the summer.
As of Wednesday afternoon, Hans reported that they got sprinkled on a little, but everything's going fine and Eric's ridden now about 180 miles.
