WU basketball signs six

Head coach Bob Chipman has announced the signing of six players to join the Ichabods and play basketball in the upcoming 2008-09 season at Washburn. The list includes three players coming from an NCAA Division I school, two from a junior college and one from high school.
Chipman got two transfers from DI Arkansas-Little Rock in seniors DeAndre Eggins and Lekheythan Malone. Jonathan Leopaul transfered to McNeese State from junior college in 2006 but never played with the Cowboys. He will join Washburn as a junior. Coming directly from junior colleges will be Logan Stutz from Butler CC and Jeremie Hart from McLennan CC. Signing out of high school will be William McNeill, a graduate of Peabody Magnet High School.
These six players join Topekan Steve Feighny, a 2008 graduate of Hayden High School whose signing was announced earlier.

DeAndre Eggins played in 30 of the 31 games for the Trojans last year and started 17 as a junior guard. He averaged 7.3 points and 3.8 rebounds as UALR went 20-11 overall and finished first in the Sun Belt Conference West Division with an 11-7 record.
As a sophomore in 2006-07 Eggins was third on the team with 11.4 points per game and he was second on the team with 90 free throws made. During his freshman year he made 7.4 points a game and led the team with a .386 3-point percentage.
As a 2005 graduate at Peabody Magnet High School he was first team all-state as he averaged 23 points and 11 rebounds his senior year. His junior year he was honorable mention all-state and he helped his team to a Louisiana state title, a No. 5 ranking in the nation by USA Today and a 41-0 overall record. Peabody Magnet won the state title all four years he was there and he was an all-district selection his final three years.
Jeremie Hart • 6-1 • 205 • Guard • Dallas, Texas • McLennan CC • South Garland HS
Jeremie Hart played during the 2006-07 season at McLennon Community College in Waco, Texas, and during the 2005-06 season at Paris Community College in Paris, Texas. He was a starting guard both years and helped lead his teams to conference championships both years.
As a sophomore at McLennon CC he averaged 8.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists and as a freshman at Paris CC he averaged 1.6 points, 1.6 assists and 0.7 rebounds a game for the Dragons. He shot 52 percent from the field at McLennon for the Highlanders.
Hart is a 2005 graduate of South Garland High School in Garland, Texas.

Jonathan Leopaul signed with NCAA Division I McNeese State for the 2006-07 school year but did not play with the Cowboys. Prior to going to McNeese State he played at Kilgore Community College in Kilgore, Texas, and averaged 12.9 points a game and 4.3 rebounds while shooting 54 percent from the field in 2005-06 for the Runnin’ Rangers. He also played there as a freshman in 2004-05.
Leopaul was named second team all-region his second year at Kilgore.
He is a 2004 graduate of Washington-Marion High School in Lake Charles, La.
Lekheythan Malone • 6-6 • 200 • Sr. • Forward • Dallas, Texas • Arkansas-Little Rock • Lancaster HS
Lekheythan Malone played three seasons at Arkansas-Little Rock where he earned Sunbelt Conference freshman of the year honors in 2005-06. As a junior last year he scored 4.2 points a game with 3.8 rebounds in 18 games and nine starts as UALR went 20-11 overall and finished first in the Sun Belt Conference West Division with an 11-7 record.
As a sophomore in 2006-07 he averaged 8.3 points and 3.9 rebounds in all 30 games with 25 starts. He was second on the team shooting 49 percent from the field. His freshman year he scored 9.9 points with 3.8 rebounds and he scored in double figures 17 times, including the first seven games of his collegiate career.
Malone went to Lancaster High School in Lancaster, Texas, where he graduated in 2004. He averaged 19 points and nine rebounds his senior year to earn all-state and he was the district most valuable player. He also was on the track and field team and an Academic Texas Scholar.
William McNeill • 6-0 • 180 • Fr. • Forward • Alexandria, La. • Peabody Magnet HS
William McNeill is a 2008 graduate of Peabody Magnet High School in Alexandria, La., where he was an honorable mention all-state player and an all-state academic selection his senior year. He averaged 16 points and six rebounds for the Warhorses his final year.
Logan Stutz • 6-8 • 205 • So. • Forward • Blue Springs, Mo. • Butler County CC
Logan Stutz played one season at Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kansas, last year. He averaged 13.5 points and 5.2 rebounds and shot 44 percent from the field for the Grizzlies.
He is a 2007 high school graduate of Plaza Heights Christian Academy in Blue Springs, Mo.
