A Kenyan sand boa visited the set of Good Morning Kansas. The nocturnal snake, a relative of the boa family, is one of the newest members of the Topeka Zoo's Educational Program.
Topeka Zoo Director Mike Coker says the Kenyan sand boa usually stays under the ground. It "lays in wait" until a meal, usually small rodents, appears.
These snakes feed every seven to ten days. They squeeze their prey to death. A misperception some people have about snakes because so many are constrictors that they don't have teeth, Coker said. However, all snakes have teeth.
