— Kelley Hunt is an internationally known rhythm and blues recording artist. Caryn Miriam-Goldberg is a writer with a penchant for poetry. Together, they form sort of a mutual admiration society.

"Caryn is a wonderful poet. She is a master teacher. She's an author. She's written several books. She also is a wonderful facilitator of workshops and all around good gal," Hunt said.

Caryn had been a fan of the Kelley Hunt band for 20 years and spent many a night dancing to the honky tonk rhythms of one of her favorite performers.

"I just loved her music and how much vitality and life she brought to it," Miriam-Goldberg said.

The two women began co-writing songs over three years ago. Now, they conduct 5-day writing workshops called "Brave Voice: Writing and Singing for Your Life." The next workshop will be held May 4 through 9 at White Memorial Camp in Council Grove.

"What, you know, got us working together on this was our sense that if you opened up your singing voice that would help you open up your writing voice and visa versa even for people who may never consider themselves singers or writers," Miriam-Goldberg said.
