Hungry crook left empty-handed after struggle

A Chinese restaurant delivery driver was punched by a suspect who was trying to take his food, but the suspect went away empty handed, police said.

The driver, 40, Topeka, was at an apartment complex in the 3700 block of Southwest 29th, just east of Gage. After being punched, the suspect and delivery driver struggled over the food, said Kristi Pankratz, police spokeswoman.

“It does not appear that the suspect got anything and he fled on foot,” she said.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 20s, about 6’, and wearing dark clothing, said Pankratz.

On March 9, a different pizza delivery driver was robbed at 17th and Clay, where a robber used tree sticks as a weapon.

Each time the robbers got away with two kinds of dough, pizza and money.
