The big check is passed, the volunteers are ready

Let's Help has the money and the manpower to make Oprah's Big Give happen in Topeka.

This project started with a check and a challenge from Oprah Winfrey.

She's giving us $10,000 and wants to see how much more money we can raise.

This afternoon, we turned over that $10,000 to Let's Help.

Now, volunteers are ready to get to work.

"It's really great to see how the people of Topeka come together to take care of their own," volunteer coordinator Fred Martinez said. "A lot of people are volunteering to help, volunteering materials, it's really great."

But we want to raise more money. Call 215-8500 with your donation. We'll take calls until 10:35 Thursday night.

And we'll reveal how much money we raised for Oprah's Big Give-- on 49 news at 10.

This is a drop in the bucket for what these people need- and there are about 500 more families here just like them. Oprah means well but with billions like she has, why not give something that will make an impact.
