A federal grand jury in Los Angeles has indicted a suburban St. Louis woman accused of being part of an online hoax on a 13-year-old neighbor girl who then committed suicide.
Lori Drew faces one count of conspiracy and three counts of accessing protected computers without authorization.
She's accused of helping create a MySpace account to contact Megan Meier. The younger girl thought she was chatting with a 16-year-old boy. He turned out not to exist.
Megan hanged herself at home in October 2006 after receiving cruel messages, including one saying the world would be better off without her.
The 33-year-old Drew has denied creating the account or sending messages to Megan.
The case is being pursued in California because MySpace is based in Beverly Hills.
