The Emporia State softball team ended their dream season Saturday.
The Lady Hornets ended the year down Houston trying take a title back home to the Sunflower State.
ESU was stout defensively only giving up one run in the national championship game, but that's all Humboldt State would need.
The Lumberjacks shut down the Hornets bats to win the national title 1-0.
Despite the disappointing final game, Emporia State had a great season, which included a MIAA title going through their regional tournament undefeated. And then, they were able to advance to the national championship game. The Lady Hornets finished the season with a 48-17 record.
They can also add one more accolade to the long list of honors. Sunday, they were awarded the academic award for having the highest combined GPA in the national tournament.
