Hello, I'm Robert Garrard, Libertarian Party candidate for U.S. Congress in the 2nd District.
I live in Douglas County and I'm an Electronics Technician for a company that builds avionics test equipment. I troubleshoot equipment used to maintain aircraft electronics such as weather radar, navigation and collision avoidance. I have an Associate Degree in electronics from DeVry Institute and I served on active duty in the Army from 1986 to 1991, maintaining air defense systems.
I joined the Libertarian Party in 1996 and I've been a delegate to national conventions and candidate for Kansas House of Representatives. I have no government experience other than my military service, but I do have the unique philosophy of the Libertarian Party and my experience as a technician, determining the root of the problem by understanding cause and effect relationships in complex interconnected systems.
My top priorities are restraining the government from destructive interference in the economy and ending unproductive military intervention around the world.
I'm not a pacifist; we need to defend America against foreign enemies but I don't think nation-building in Iraq serves that purpose and I don't believe American taxpayers should pay for the defense of places like Europe, South Korea and Israel.
I support free markets because they are more productive than controlled markets; because there's no constitutional authority to manipulate markets; and because free markets are inherently moral; controlled markets breed corruption. I believe every adult has an equal right to buy, sell and trade, goods, services and property without interference. The only role for government in business is to enforce contracts and prosecute for fraud, theft and actions that damage the health or property of others. That means free-market commodity-backed currency to stop inflation, no Federal Income Tax and no subsidies or bailouts.
If you're tired of politicians re-arranging the cinder blocks under a broken-down car, it's time to vote straight Libertarian and force a change in philosophy, without which, America will never be any better than it is today.
Thank you for your support.
