Making over a house will help makeover lives
Extreme Makeover is keeping one Chapman family off the streets.
This sidewalk starts on the street and ends at an empty lot where the Tutwiler family used to live.
Next Tuesday this sidewalk will end at a brand new home.
Diane Korman, producer with Extreme Makeover Home Edition, said, "Mom was crying dad was shocked, kids were so happy they were jumping up and down. They just knew their lives were about to change. They would have a a home. They wouldn't be homeless, they wouldn't be leaving the base with no where to go. Look at the Tutwiler story. Patrick came home from Iraq and he was a war hero. He had been shot in the neck, but yet a tornado hits this town, and could have devastated his family, and still he protected them. That is the heroism we love to tell."
Patrick Tutwiler threw his family in a closet in the hallway when the tornado hit Chapman on June 11 and he used his body as a shield to protect them.
The small town of Chapman has so many people coming together to help rebuild.
"We came here and saw indeed we have heroes all in this town. We were amazed when we got letter after letter, not just about the Tutwiler family, but also about Chapman, Kansas, and you can't just help one family, you have to come and help several. That's what we plan to do this week. I think this week you will see a lot of love come into this town and make a difference," Korman said.
