Move over, YouTube, TroopTube is here

Keeping immediate contact with soldiers serving thousands of miles away just got easier.

Move over YouTube, it's time for TroopTube.

"Hey troopers, this is General David Petreaus saying thanks for your tremendous work," said General David Petreaus on one TroopTube video.

It's the military's video sharing Web site for soldiers and their families.

"Be safe and come home fast," said two military wives in a video message. "We love you."

Major Robert Stinson just returned from a 12-month deployment in Iraq, his third tour of duty.

The husband and father of two wishes he could've used Troop Tube while he was overseas. But, he says the site will help other military families communicate faster.

"It helps the soldiers see their families, see the changes over the years, six months, a year, nine months they're deployed," he said.

And though the reunion of families and soldiers is joyous time, it can be one of the most difficult transitions for both. But Major Stinson hopes the new Web site will ease that process.

"Being able to stay in touch with that and stay up to speed and up to date on what goes on, it helps mitigate that time frame and mitigate some of the issues that occur with separation," he said.

Last year, the Department of Defense banned soldiers and its employees from Web sites like YouTube and MySpace for security reasons. But a Pentagon employee will screen TroopTube will for taste, copyright violations and national security issues.
