Gas prices expand holiday options

Cheaper fuel has some thinking of travel for the holidays, but others will stay home because of Mother Nature.

Every time he pulls his car up to the pump, Harry Davis falls in love all over again.

"I love it," he said.

Lower gas prices are giving him the green light for holiday travel on the road.

"Well instead of going 100 miles, you might go 500 miles," Davis said. "It really makes a difference. The time, the distance, gas mileage, it means a lot."

With airlines already canceling flights and gas prices continuing their downward slide, no matter where people are going, the open road is looking more open than ever before.

"Well it's great for right now," said Topekan Lovella Williams. "I just don't want to see them go back up again. That's one part of the economic mess that we've caught a break on."

Low prices don't have everyone thinking of hitting the road.

"I won't go as far away from home because of the weather," said Topekan Jerome Williams. "That's the only reason."

If gas station manager Amin Noorani is right, Topekans may catch an even bigger break.

"The price is going down so far, it looks like we'll have a $0.99 menu on the board pretty soon by Christmas," Noorani said.

That should make for a very merry Christmas, but Davis thinks it will all even out.

"Gas prices are lower, food prices are higher," he said. "It's all the same."

Here's hoping for a Christmas Miracle.
