Illegally trashed chlorine injures worker

Illegally disposed of trash caused problems for one garbage truck this morning.
Someone threw their pool chlorine away, so when it was compacted in the trash truck, the container burst.
The fumes then seeped out and burned the eyes and skin of the garbage truck workers.
"It started to burn so much, my eyes were watering. I said, 'We gotta stop,'" chlorine burn victim Billy Cremer said. "I wish they wouldn't do it. We had guys hurt from the same thing last year and they lost a lot of time, and they still have problems. It's not a good thing to do."
To properly dispose of pool chemicals, contact the Topeka Hazardous Waste Disposal office.
