Christmas shopping comes early for some

Every year it seems Christmas comes earlier and earlier.

But this year some people are paying more attention to their pockets.

"I know at this time of the year people don't think about it, you know, let's get one thing at a time, get one holiday over at a time. Not me. I think ahead," shopper Faye Womack said.

Womack says she can't afford to wait until the season rolls around to start buying for Christmas.

"I shop a little bit each month. I'm retired," Womack said.

And she says being retired, she can't wait until the last minute.

"Puts you in a crunch, and being retired, we can't do that," Womack said.

As she and her grandsons browsed the aisles, she told us she loves this time of the year.

"I'm pretty much done with Christmas," Womack said.

Many stores around town have already stocked shelves with holiday décor. A Target employee told me they usually put it out at the same time every year, but this year he's noticed more activity on the shelves.

And over at K-Mart, there's more activity in the layaway department.

"Layaway sales have always been good and they are continuing to increase," Manager James Robson said.

Robson says people like the option of layaway better, especially with a troubling economy.

"It's a great alternative to using a credit card with interest," Robson said.

Womack agrees spending a bunch of money at one time is hard on a family budget.

"Well, money's pretty tight right now, you know, you better get it while you can," Womack said.

We told you many stores put out Christmas decorations in early September, but we found one store, Hobby Lobby, that stocks the shelves with Christmas décor in July.
