A woman and her 3-year-old daughter are dead after a train slammed into a car that had stalled on private property in Butler County.
Sheriff Craig Murphy on Sunday said 36-year-old Molissa Bilson and her daughter Molly died after the train hit the vehicle as the family headed home at about 7:45 p.m. Saturday. The tracks cross a driveway on private property northeast of Augusta.
The woman was trying to get the girl out of her car seat when the train plowed into the car.
Murphy said the woman's 15-year-old son, Dylan, tried unsuccessfully to push the car off the tracks as the train approached.
The teen managed to get his 7-year-old sister, Abagail, out of the car in time.
Murphy said that the car -- which had a standard shift -- stalled for unknown reasons after it reached the tracks.
