49 Storm Team Forecast: Hampered punts and passes
4:19 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008
Punts and passes will be a bit tricky for Friday night football games thanks to stiff southeast breezes. These winds are funneling north into a strong storm developing over the Rocky Mountain States and Northern Plains. The storm will pull out into the plains later this weekend, helping to increase rain chances.
Tonight: Breezy southeast winds continue. Mild temperatures, with lows dipping to about 58 F. Southeast winds at 5 to 15 mph.
Saturday: More wind. A few thin, cirrus clouds. Highs around 80 F. South winds at 15 to 25 mph.
Saturday night: Very mild. Lows around 63 F. Strong south winds continue.
On Sunday, the storm will really start to edge out into the plains. Thunderstorms will break out from north to south across the Midwest. Most of Sunday's storms will stay north and west of the area. Places out near Concordia may see a few storms later Sunday evening, but better chances await them Monday.
Computer models are differing in the speed of the storm, and associated cold front, for Monday. Nevertheless, expect rain and thunderstorm chances to increase on Monday. Temperatures will fall, from northwest to southeast, Monday afternoon.
Tuesday looks chilly with more rain chances, especially from Emporia to Burlington. Then, the pattern turns a bit more quiet, with just a few showers expected on Thursday. Next weekend, at this point, is looking mild, with storms entering the picture on Sunday.
