Inmates assault two jail officers

Two officers at the Leavenworth Detention Facility are hospitalized after being assaulted by inmates.

The officers are hospitalized in stable condition, but the extent of their injuries has not been released.

The assault occurred about 10:15 p.m. Wednesday in a high-security area at the facility, which is run by Corrections Corp. of America.

Facility spokeswoman Connie Parish says the officers were making routine rounds when three inmates assaulted them in two separate attacks. No inmates were injured.

The facility has been placed on lockdown, while the attacks are investigated.
