Drama to bring Kaw Nation's plight to life in Council Grove

The community is invited to a rare event that will bring to life the torturous and real-life events that led to the removal of Native Americans from the land named for them.

"Voices of the Wind People" depicts life of the Kanza, or Kaw, Nation through live action scenes. As many as 40 Kanza members will join the cast of about 100.

  • When: Friday, Sept. 12, 2008, 8 p.m.
  • Where: Council Grove High School, 129 Hockaday St., Council Grove, KS
  • Cost: $10 - $12
  • Age limit: All ages

Full event details

They will act out scenes showing how the Kanza gradually lost their land and were sent out to present-day Oklahoma and beyond.

The show also depicts early day Council Grove.

Those interested can see the performance at 8 p.m. both Friday and Sept. 13 at the Old Riverbed Amphitheater in Council Grove.

In case of rain, the event will be held at the high school auditorium.
