NW Kansans take their turn on an Honor Flight

Three bus loads arrived at the Salina airport Wednesday morning to a warm welcome.
"For our father being in WWII and being involved with Iwo Jima, it leaves an impression for life, and the opportunity for him to do this it's a great way to honor our WWII veterans and all veterans," David Nowak said.
More than 100 veterans from northwest Kansas and their high school escorts were all preparing to visit Washington DC.
A documentary film crew captured every moment for the Smithsonian.
"Many, many years ago they all went together to a war, and they're doing it again," Nowak said.
As families bid their goodbyes...
"Have a good day."
Some are lucky enough to get to go together.
Jordann Wiltfong of Stockton High School had her essay chosen and is escorting her grandpa.
"She's heard my war stories, so this is a chance for her now to see what I went through," veteran Eugene Wiltfong said.
Organizers say the trip is a way to thank the veterans.
"It's time to give them their final recognition," Honor Flight organizer Pat Hageman said.
"It's very important that we get to honor so many great people," Jordann Wiltfong said.
But for the veterans, it's so much more.
"It's fun to be with 'em again, I'd like to see what they looked like when they were 17 and 18," veteran Allen Musbach said.
And a chance to see "their" memorial.
Nearly 150 people were on that Honor Flight.
It costs $85,000 all paid for by fundraisers.
