Flood Warning issued for area counties

The National Weather Service in Topeka has issued a flash flood warning for Lyon County until 6:30 p.m.

At 3:37 p.m. moderate rain was still moving across portions of Lyon county. More rain is expected. This will combine with saturated soil to continue the flood threat for the county. Some roads across portions of southwest Lyon County were closed due to water over the road. With the additional rainfall, travel problems can be expected.

Locations impacted include Admire, Allen, Americus, Emporia, Hartford, Neosho Rapids, Olpe and Reading.

This includes the Kansas Turnpike and Interstate 35.

The flood warning is also in effect for Coffey, Douglas, Franklin and Osage counties until 7 p.m.

At 4:05 p.m. showers and thunderstorms continue to develop across this area and will persist through the remainder of the afternoon. An additional one to locally 2 inches of rain will occur across much of this area and will result in flooding of small streams, urban, rural and poor drainage areas.

Locations impacted include Lawrence, Burlington, Carbondale, Eudora, Gridley, LeRoy, Lebo, Lyndon, Melvern, Osage City, Overbrook, Pomona, Quenemo, Scranton, Clinton Lake, Pomona Lake and Melvern Lake.

Runoff from today's storm will cause flash flooding of creeks and streams, highways and underpasses. Additionally roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks and streams and low lying areas are subject to flash flooding.

Do not drive your vehicle into areas where water covers the roadway.
