"I play the rhythm bones, which is a musical instrument that is played between your fingers, and they're actually cow ribs or hardwood, and you play 'em between your fingers and it makes a rhythm," musician Barry "Bones" Patton said.

"We're actually celebrating our 37th year at the Walnut Valley Festival. It's a music festival, not bluegrass, but it's all kinds of music, Western Swing, cowboy, bluegrass, it's just a great thing that happens in Winfield on the third weekend in September. We all get together from all over the world."

"I think the faster songs are my favorite."

"Getting the crowd involved with it and they get to roarin'."

"I think we're carrying on a heritage. The bones were like a lost art. They date way back. They're probably one of the oldest instruments around. You would be surprised how many people come up and say, 'Did you just invent this thing?'"

Your morning announcer made fun of Barry Patton and his bones...little does she know just how good he is. And Byron Berline is one of the great bluegrass musicians of all time.
