The hopes and dreams of community members will hang from trees during this weekend's Aaron Douglas Art Fair.
Artists from Washburn University are working with organizers to create a visual celebration of hope with a wishing tree. Attendees to the art fair add their wish to a tree.
The event is slated for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Aaron Douglas Art Park, 12th and Lane. It offers free family entertainment, with live music, 26 artists and inexpensive food, ranging from 50 cents to $5.

The fair is held in memory of Aaron Douglas, a renown artist from Topeka.
"He was a model and a mentor for artists," said Karen Hiller, an event organizer.
Diverse and emerging artists is this year's theme, so the fair will see artist's work that's never been displayed alongside seasoned artists' work.
"This is an art fair for diverse and emerging artist, as well for people who have been to many art fairs and love art fairs and those people who have never been to an art fair," Hiller said.
