Good Morning Kansas Breakfast Chat:
Depression and bipolar disorder support group reaches 20-year milestone
Even though the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance has been around for 20 years, many Topekans may not know that there's a local group that can help them or their loved ones cope with depression or bipolar disorder.
The group just celebrated its 20th anniversary in the community.
DBSA's meetings, held the third Wednesday of each month, are for patients suffering from depression or bipolar disorder. The self-help group meets at Valeo Behavioral Healthcare, 330 SW Oakley.
It's a welcoming group that respects confidentiality, said Bryce Miller, a volunteer with the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance.
More than 23 million people in the U.S. are affected by depression or bipolar disorder. The local DBSA chapter allow patients to share experiences, discuss coping skills and offer hope to one another.
Learn more by visiting www.DBSAAlliance.org or by calling (785) 233-1730.
Also, National Depression Screening Day will be held Oct. 10. You can call the number above for information about screenings or take an online screening here.
