A water line replacement project led to a potentially dangerous situation in downtown Topeka Monday morning.
Crews were working on the waterline in front of TPAC when a backhoe hit a gas line.
Fire crews and representatives from Kansas Gas Service were on the scene, until they could get the gas leak sealed and the situation under control.
The city is replacing the entire water line on 8th Street between Monroe and Quincy...
That line has been the site of several breaks over the past few years.
