RoadRunners to stay
NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld brought good news to Topeka hockey fans tonight.
NAHL Commissioner Mark Frankenfeld tells 49 Sports Director Nic Hoch that there is a new buyer for the Topeka RoadRunners hockey team.
Frankenfeld told Hoch that an out-of-town group has signed a letter of intent to buy the team and its business assets. Frankenfeld said that included everything from marketing to hockey sticks. He said the new owners intend to keep the team in Topeka.
Frankenfeld said an agreement still needed to be worked out regarding a lease commitment from the Kansas Expocentre. The current lease runs year-to-year. The new ownership group wants a multi-year commitment.
Frankenfeld said the deal could be announced as soon as Friday.
H.R. Cook comments on the impending sale
Kansas Expocentre General Manager H.R. Cook echoed statements from NAHL commissioner Mark Frankenfeld that a deal is close in the sale of the Topeka Roadrunners.
