One teen is dead after a roll over accident in Southeast Topeka

Teen dies in car accident

A male teen was killed after his car veered off the road.

Emergency crews were on the scene right at a roll over accident in Southeast Topeka Saturday night. The accident happened at 101st and SE Paulen. 16-year-old Dalton L. Westphal, of Carbondale was killed after he rolled his vehicle over a ditch and hit a power line. Emergency crews said the teen was still inside the vehicle with a live power line over the vehicle. Kaw Valley Electric and Westar were on scene to try and turn off power over the vehicle.

A Life Star helicopter landed in a field, but left shortly after. Sheriff's said it was because Westphal died on scene. The family of the victim was at the scene Saturday night. Crews worked to figure out what caused the accident. Witnesses on scene said they saw the car slid off the road and into the ditch.
