A Topeka day care provider has been sentenced to 32 months in prison in the death of a 6-month-old boy in her care.
35-year-old Michelle Bolze-Sann was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in November. She was operating a licensed day care at her home in July 2007 when the napping infant, Zachary David Typer, became wedged between the mattress and a railing at the foot of a bed.
Bolze-Sann said during trial testimony that she tried performing CPR on the boy, but Zachary had suffocated.
The jury in the case also found the day care provider guilty of child endangerment.
Shawnee County District Court Judge Evelyn Wilson gave her six months for the endangerment conviction, but that sentence will run at the same time as the 32-month stint.
