Safe Streets gaining national attention

The safe streets coalition is working to make Topeka the safest capital city, and has gained respect all over the nation.

Some people from Wyandotte County have even been coming to the meeting to learn from us and implement the ideas back in their county. But more states than just Kansas have seen the impact the safe streets coalition is making to fight crime, "It been very excited for the entire coalition to know that nationally they are starting to ask about us, and how did you do that, it's not staff it's volunteers. So, it's been very exciting to go to...several different states," Sally Zellers, with Safe Streets, said.

I think this is fantastic and glad to hear that someone else has the safety in mind for all in the Capatial city.
Here in our area of Topeka we had a 'Get to know your Neighbor & Neighborhood Potluck Picnic' and it was wonderful to visit the neighbors around us. We talked about how to make our area safe and free of crimes. We decided the best thing we could do was start by knowing the Landlord names, so we can contact them on behavior of their tentants and to call the police when it becomes out of hand. We even talked about asking the city to place speed bumps up and down our street here to crub the speeders.
Socialize with neighbors is the KEY!!
Form a welcoming committee to welcome new people in our area, take small gift of welcome ie. homemade bread, pie, cookies, or a small candle, or some other type of little trinket. I think we can bring the small town mentality to a big city, just going to take us to make the first small step which will lead to a mile and so on. So let's PAY IT FORWARD!!
