People in College Hill celebrate Independence Day the old fashioned way
Many people around the nation are remembering the pride they have to be an American today. Susan Duffy who lives in College Hill says this day brings everyone together.
"It is about this place we call America and this is being celebrated all around the United States just like this and I think it's our tie to each other."
That's what one small neighborhood in Topeka has been doing for years. College Hill celebrated it's 20th annual 4th of July parade. Parents like John Deeter says he comes back every year because of the people in the area.
"This is a great opportunity to get out during the day and just move around and just enjoy some of the finest people of Topeka."
And Duffy says College Hill is a community people are proud of and make their perminent home.
"To live in this neighborhood and see everyone coming together you get a great sense of pride and a sense of place and that's so important. This is a place where we have put down our roots."
The people in College Hill say they love celebrating the old fashion way with people sitting on the front lawn, gathering with neighbors and just enjoying company.
Kids brought out their turtles and people in the community threw out candy and beads to people watching the parade.
All so this little neighborhood in Topeka could celebrate the 4th the old fashioned way according to Duffy.
"We're proud to be Americans, Kansans, and we're proud to be in College Hill neighborhood. "
