Life-threatening heat to boil Northeast Kansas
49 Morning Meteorologist Alex Harrington shows us just where the best chances reside for heat index values to pop over 110°F Tuesday afternoon.
Heat Advisory has been extended now through Wednesday evening for all of Northeast Kansas. The combination of heat and sweltering humidity, could make it "feel" between 105-110°F across parts of Northeast Kansas both Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday afternoon. Heat Warnings are in effect the closer you get to the Central Kansas and the greater Kansas City Metro Area. Do not be surprised to see the heat index climb as high as 115°F near the Missouri River, too.
Tuesday: Heat Advisory. Dangerous heat. Highs around 99°F. Heat index 105-110°F. Light winds.
Tuesday night: Heat Advisory. Very uncomfortable. Lows around 75°F Light winds.
Wednesday: Heat Advisory. Dangerous heat. Highs around 98°F. Heat index around 105°F. Light winds.
A little relief from a thunderstorm might sound tempting; however, the slim chance of thunderstorms both Wednesday night and Thursday, may actually help to pool moisture around the area. The addtional moisture may aid in the extension of the Heat Advisory through Thursday. There is even the potential of an upgrade from a Heat Advisory to an Excessive Heat Warning for parts of the 49 Viewing Area by Wednesday or Thursday, too. Stay tuned.
In the meantime, drink lots of extra water. Stay away from sugar-filled drinks. Stay away from alcohol. If you must be outside, take frequent breaks. Try to escape to an air conditioned building for brief periods of time. Check frequently on the very young and elderly. All these rules apply for your pets, too.
Best cool thoughts from me to you during this heat wave,
Alex
