ATA bus wanting funding for fixed route

Manhattan is continuing to work on the 2010 budget. This week they reviewed outside agencies budgets', which are funded by the city and ATA bus is asking for some more funding.

"Because of the stimulus money, it appears that they may be getting some additional transportation assets, buses and vans and what not, and would like to put in a fixed route sytem across the city," City Finance Director Bernie Hayen said.

The public transportation service asked the social services board for $90,000 and the board agreed to give them half the amount. Now they are asking the city to give them the rest of the money so Manhattan can have a fixed bus route late next year.

The commission agreed to consider it when budgeting for 2010.
